IIT Delhi Announced JEE Advanced Date, Exam to be Conducted in USA also



JEE Advanced 2020 date to be Pinned. Indian Institute of Delhi (IIT-D) announced that JEE Advanced 2020 will be conducted on 17th May as a computer-based test for the admission to all 23 IITs. The detailed notification will be released in due course.

In a meeting held on 15th September IIT Joint Admission Board several key decisions for JEE advanced were taken. One of which is to conduct JEE Advanced exam, for the first time ever, in United States also. For this purpose, an examination centre will be set up in San Francisco area.

According to the report, Prof V Ramgopal Rao, Director, IIT Delhi, said, "JEE exam is now conducted in five countries worldwide and we have added USA to the list. US has benefitted significantly by the presence of a large number of IIT alumni there and there is considerable awareness in the US about IITs. Conducting JEE in the Bay area is a logical thing to do."

In 2019, JEE advanced were conducted in Dubai (UAE), Dhaka (Bangladesh), Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Kathmandu (Nepal), Singapore and Colombo (Sri Lanka).
However, in 2020, the IIT JAB has decided discontinued centres of Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) and Colombo (Sri Lanka), quoting absence of aspirants during past year examinations.

Increase in the number of Qualifiers in JEE Advanced 2020

Another big change that will definitely be in favour of students is that from 2020 onwards top 2,50,000 rankers of JEE Main 2020 will be allowed to appear in JEE Advanced. There is an increase of 10,000 takers. Earlier in 2019, this number was 2,40,000. This includes candidates from all categories such as General, Schedule Caste (SC), Schedule Tribe (ST) and Other Backward Class (OBC).

On 17th May, the first paper of JEE Advanced is scheduled from 9.00 a.m. to 12 p.m. (IST). The second paper will be conducted on the same day in the second shift starting from 2.30 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. (IST). Earlier it used to start at 2.00 p.m.
According to Prof Siddharth Pandey, Organizing Chairman, JEE (Advanced) 2020, "Paper 2 that used to start at 2 p.m. earlier, is now scheduled to start at 2:30 pm. This is to allow students, especially the PwD candidates, more time between the two papers. This will also help in conducting biometric verification at the centers in timely manner."

Eligibility Criteria for JEE Advanced 2020

  • Candidates should have appeared and qualified the JEE Main 2020 exam with minimum cutoff. Additionally, he must be in list of top 250,000 candidates.
  • As per the latest information candidates can appear in JEE Advanced 2020 irrespective of their age
  • Candidates can appear for JEE Advanced for a maximum of two attempts in two consecutive years.
  • Candidate must have appeared in Class 12 either in 2019 or 2020
  • Candidates who have earlier got admissions in any IIT are not allowed, irrespective of the status of whether pursuing or left the course.

In 2019, IIT Roorkee was the organising institute for JEE Advanced in which a total number of 161,319 candidates had appeared in both papers 1 and 2. The qualify percentage was ~24.

Tell us something about yourself, which board have you studied in, how much did you score in your class 12?
Kartikey: I am from Mumbai, Maharashtra. My father Mr Chandresh Gupta works as General Manager (Paper Industry) and my mother Mrs Poonam Gupta is a housewife. Elder brother has completed his BTech in computer science and is also working. This year I secured 93.7 percent in Class 12th.

What is your score in JEE Advanced 2019? What is your all India rank and category rank? What was your JEE Main rank and marks?
Kartikey: I secured 346 marks out of 372 in JEE Advanced 2019. My All India Rank is 1 in general category.

Marks obtained in JEE Advanced 2019:
Mathematics: 121
Physics: 113
Chemistry: 112
I secured AIR-18 in JEE Mains 2019 by scoring 100 percentile and was Second Topper of Maharashtra State.



Why do you want to study engineering? When did you decide to study engineering? Which branch would you be interested in? Any reason?
Kartikey: My dream of pursuing engineering from IIT Bombay in CS branch is going to come true. I have qualified KVPY in the year 2017 and 2018. I have also qualified INPhO, InChO, INAO and INJSO.

When did you start your JEE Advanced preparation? Tell us something about your preparation strategy and daily routine for JEE Advanced?
Kartikey: I always focused on studying with a relaxed mind. I did not study for long hours. Apart from regular classes, I did self-study for 6-7 hours with a proper schedule. I also gave weekly tests regularly, which helped me do self-analysis which improved my performance. Also, I made sure to clear the doubts before sleeping. I took a break and relaxed after every two hours. I used a regular keypad phone and was never active on social media.


Did you take coaching for JEE and if yes from where? What are the benefits of coaching according to you?
Kartikey: I have been studying in ALLEN Career Institute since 2017. The faculties here work very hard to help candidates achieve success. After classes, I used to dedicate six to seven hours for self-study. Joining JEE coaching doubled my strength.

Who is your ideal or biggest inspiration in life and why?
Kartikey: Great Mathematician Srinivas Ramanujan is my idol.

You know you are an inspiration to thousands of students across the country. Do you have any message for future aspirants on tackling the JEE Advanced exam?
Kartikey: Students should study without stress. During the preparation, they should be relaxed physically as well as mentally. Self-competition plays a vital role in achieving the goal. Do not study for long hours. Take a break and relax after every two hours.
